Be Like Joe Golf Outing - 2010

Early morning grey skies and rain cleared off to provide a beautiful day for the second Annual Be Like Joe Golf Outing. More than 125 people came to remember the spirit of their friend Joe Barton.

Jim Magara, of the Be Like Joe Memorial Fund said "like last year, today's turnout really hits home. So many people, golfers and sponsors alike, have come out to support our scholarship fund and remember their friend Joe Barton. I can't thank them enough."

A buffet lunch, catered by Wings, Pizza and Things of Saline, kicked off the event. Following the 4 person scramble golf tournament, prizes were awarded for first, second and third place teams. The day concluded with a raffle for several prizes along with a 50/50 raffle.

The proceeds from the event benefit the Be Like Joe Scholarship Award. With the success of our golf outings, The Be Like Joe Memorial Fund was able to provide two scholarship to deserving student athletes this year. "It's really nice that the efforts of so many people have paid off so that we can double our scholarship offerings this year. It's our goal to continue this into the future in the memory of Joe. That's important to all of us involved in our organization" Magara added.

Special thanks go to: Thomas J. Barton, Kathy Barton, Chris Bender, Matt Bender, Scott Benz, Terry Blovits, Oscar Cotero, Mike Johnson and the staff of Brookside Golf Course, Reggie Kaji, Ben Magara, Melanie Magara, Jan Magielski, Mike Magielski, Bob May, Carl Spina, Anne and Mike Vara. The event was held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Brookside Golf Course in Joe's hometown of Saline, Michigan. Next year's event will again be held at Brookside in June.
