Be Like Joe Golf Outing - 2011

The Third Annual Be Like Joe Golf outing brought people from Texas, Colorado, Illinois and various parts of Michigan as twenty-four foursomes teed it up on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Brookside Golf Course in Saline, Michigan. The proceeds from the four person scramble event benefited the Be Like Joe Scholarship Awards.

Jim Magara, President of the Be Like Joe Memorial Fund was again overwhelmed by this year's turnout; "Each year, we've had over 100 people participate in our event and that includes golfers, business and individual sponsors and volunteers. And, this positive feedback that we've received from the community and from our scholarship recipients reinforces the idea that what we're doing is a good thing ... that we are helping young student athletes to begin their college careers and people recognize that and they support us. That makes you feel good inside ... but this fund and event isn't about any of us who work to make it happen ... this is all about our good friend Joe Barton, his legacy of helping others and what he meant and STILL means to us ... THAT is why we do this."

Kathy Barton, Joe's mother added, "We thank everyone for their support and generosity. Even though this is a bittersweet occasion for us, we truly look forward to seeing our friends come out and share the day with us. This wouldn't be possible without their support."

This year the BLJMF awarded four individual scholarships making a total of seven scholarships awarded since our inception in 2009. A complete listing of our award recipients can be found on our website.

Special thanks are in order to Mike Johnson and the staff at Brookside Golf Course, Oscar Cotero, Mike Vara, Reggie Kaji, Scott Benz, Office Max of Ann Arbor and all of our volunteers work to make this event happen. Next year's outing will again be held in June at Brookside Golf Course in Saline, Michigan.

Again, the Be Like Joe Memorial Fund would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone whose generosity and support has contributed to make our organization a success. We are forever grateful for your support, as we strive to recognize others who demonstrate Joe Barton's desire for personal excellence.
